I created this blog...
as a way to connect with other educators and share what I am doing in my classroom. I just finished my first year teaching and I know it was incredibly helpful to find other educators sites and see their ideas on how to use interactive notebooks or set up their classrooms. I hope that others will find what I post helpful. Feel free to connect with me or contact me. Comment if you have questions on posts & I will get back to you as soon as possible. I love learning and love sharing what I know with others!
Meet Ms. Tensen...
My hometown is Dawson which is a small town of 1,600 people in southwestern Minnesota. I graduated from Dawson-Boyd High School in 2009. I choose to attend the University of Minnesota-Duluth for my undergraduate schooling. At UMD, I majored in Health Education, school concentration, with a certificate in Educational Computing and Technology. I graduated from University of Minnesota Duluth in the spring of 2013 with my Bachelor of Applied Science in Health Education. In 2014, I went back to school at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities (UMNTC) in order to turn my certificate into a full MN teaching license in Computer, Keyboarding & Related Technology Application, as well as an additional certificate in K-12 Technology Integration. I completed both programs in June 2015. I currently teach 7-9th grade Health Education and 7th-grade Computer at Dawson-Boyd Secondary. This is will be my third year teaching at DBHS.
The reason that I chose teaching as a career was because I could not imagine doing anything else every day and still being able to enjoy it as much as I did the day before. While I was student teaching I came to the realization that soon I would be getting paid for what I was doing, which is amazing to me because I love what I do & would do it for free. As a teacher, I understand the amazing opportunity I have to make a difference in the lives of my students. I think Albert Einstein said it best when he stated “It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression & knowledge.” That is the type of meaningful learning I hope to construct during my lifetime with everyone who steps into my classroom. It is not just about the material that I teach but about the life skills and encouragement that I instill in my students. I want everyone to be able to see the passion I have for what I do because being a teacher is part of who I am.
